06.22.2014. The Feast of Corpus Christi. By Reverend Andrew C. Smith, Jr.

Good morning Holy Angels,

Today we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (feast of Corpus Christi).

In the Gospel passage today Jesus is really explaining what takes place during the Last Supper and every Mass. It is another take on the Last Supper, looking at the Last Supper from another angle so that we get a fuller understanding.

06.22.2014. God Wants Your Garbage. By Deacon Bruce McElrath.

God Wants Your Garbage

Once a week, a truck moves slowly down our alley, pausing at every house. Full and sometimes overflowing garbage containers are picked up, emptied into the truck, and returned to each house. During the next week, as the rubbish accumulates and the odor increases, we become eager for the return of the garbage truck.

06.01.2014. The Feast of Ascension. By Reverend Andrew C. Smith, Jr.

Today we celebrate the feast of the Ascension. After the resurrection, Jesus taught his disciples about God’s kingdom for forty days (Acts 1:3) and then he was “taken up” to heaven (Acts 1:2, 11). The cross and empty tomb are at the very heart of the gospel message proclaimed by Jesus’s followers throughout history (1 Corinthians 15:1–4).

05.11.2014. The Shepard Goes Through the Gate. By Reverend Andrew C. Smith Jr.

Good morning Holy Angels,

Today we celebrate the fourth Sunday of Easter. And in today’s gospel Jesus says, "The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep; the gate keeper opens the gate for him and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out."

05.11.2014. In The Belly of a Fish. By Deacon Bruce McElrath.

In The Belly of a Fish

Jonah must have been very uncomfortable in the belly of the fish. Yet there are many people in this dark and suffocating world who seem to think that the place they find themselves is a pretty good place to be. They believe that the world needs only a few social and political improvements. And they also hold that people themselves possess the ability to make all the needed changes.
