GUIDED BY THE SPIRIT--THE HOLY SPIRIT!
When JESUS picks a job for you he wants you to look ahead and don't look back. HE wants you to be guided by the SPIRIT. You may want to say, "not my will LORD -- but let your will be done in my life."
1st. Kings Ch. 19 vs 16, speaks of the anointing of Elisha.
The term "annoint" implies a call for a special purpose -- a call from GOD. Many people live beneath their calling; they are called to do certain things and they settle for much less. There are people called to play a musical instrument and instead they play the horses. There are people called to teach at the high school or college level and instead they teach criminal behavior to our young people. There are people called to own and run a drug store like Walgreens but instead they end up using drugs.
But there is a woman who owns a pharmacy at 103rd and Western Avenue and want to open a 15,000 square foot drug store at Madison and Western and I understand that Walgreens is trying to prevent it so they can open a store themselves. I believe she has the calling that the Good Lord with our help can see that she meets the requirements and gets the support she needs to open the store at Madison and Western. (Check it out when you have time). Some folks are called to sing in the choir and they answered that call -- that is why we have such a great choir.
Someone is called to lead the choir, thank God Tyrone Pittman answered the call -- He was guided by the SPIRIT --THE HOLY SPIRIT! The freedom spoken of in the second reading is religious freedom. This freedom is based on redemption through grace. The word redemption or to be redeemed means:
* To be free from the bondage of sin.
* To change for the better.
* To reform.
* To repair, restore or to convert.
* To atone for through the grace of God; We can change for the better.
The scripture reminds us: Do not take on the yoke of slavery to sin for a second time. In living in freedom we are not to give free rein to the flesh -- You have heard the saying, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." God gives us he ability and strength to resist the devil -- Didn't He say, resist the devil and he or she will flee.
The song writer said: * Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin. * Each victory will help you or some other to win. * Move hopefully onward, dark passions subdue. * Look ever to Jesus, He will carry you through. * Ask the Savior to help you, comfort, strengthen and keep you. He is willing to aid you. He will carry you through.
You can't lose if you are guided by the SPIRIT --THE HOLY SPIRIT. People with a health self esteem don't yield so fast to temptation.
Dr. Robert Schuller, pastor of The Crystal Cathedral and Motivational Speaker, from Garden Grove, California stated that the two most important words in life are, "I AM" and Rev. Jesse Jackson added a third word; he said, "I AM SOMEBODY." Dr. Schuller made another statement, "I am not free until I believe in me." So believe in yourself. There is nothing that you and the GOOD LORD can't do, (somebody needed to hear that). We need to prove to ourselves and others that we truly love GOD and that our desire is to imitate JESUS. We show love by our actions. The second reading reminds us that we are to place ourselves at one another's service. The whole law has found its fulfillment is this one saying, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." -- Think well of yourself. You are somebody. You are GOD'S child and HE loves you and you are to reflect that love to others and to love and serve them. I repeat, You are to show love by your actions, especially if you are "Guided by the SPIRIT -- THE HOLY SPIRIT". If you are one who (Quote), "Go on biting and tearing one another to pieces, take care you will end up in mutual destruction. On the other hand, if you do GOD'S will and love your neighbor and do what you can to help somebody, You will continue to bet blessed by GOD." I closed with four power filled words, "DO GOOD, AVOID EVIL." HE WHO PURSUES EVIL WILL HAVE BEFALL HIM. DO GOOD, AVOID EVIAL, --REPEAT, GO GOO9D, AVOID EVIL. TO DO GOOD IS TO BE CHRIST-LIKE. TO BE CHRIST-LIKE IS GOOD. TO DO GOOD IS TO BE GUIDED BY THE SPIRIT -- THE HOLY SPIRIT. AMEN.
