04.13.2014. Father Drew's Weekly Message.

Good morning Holy Angels,

How can we not hear the account of Jesus’ Passion and not be moved by it?

.In today’s gospel, Jesus the king was now condemned by his own people and by the Roman authorities. The soldiers mock his seeming powerlessness, using the symbols of imperial power--the crown, the scepter, and the rituals of homage--to deride Jesus. Nevertheless, Jesus is invested with God's power--not the oppressive power of brute force or domination but the liberating power of love and justice.

Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins, and without the forgiveness of sins, we all would be lost. But Jesus gave his life to save humankind when he died on the cross. He truly is the son of the living God. Having loved his own who were in the world; he loved them to the end, for Jesus’ cross shows us his death was for us

From before the foundation of the world, the Lord God knew that He would have to become human in Christ Jesus and live the life we cannot live and die the death we don't want to die in order to rescue us from sin, death, and evil. God's Son Jesus could not be kept in a tomb by death or a huge stone or even by temple police. For in Christ Jesus: love is stronger than hate, good is stronger than evil, light is King of the Universe, and the Holy Spirit is on the loose in this world.

During the week ahead meditate on the Passion of Jesus, let it become a source of healing for you also. Do not waste this week. Spend this week with Jesus meditating on his Passion. Come to the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, the celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday and Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night, and then as we celebrate Easter we know that our savior lives!

Christ’s peace,
Fr. Drew
